Prompting Tips for Better AI Songs
Concrete patterns—tempo, instrumentation, references, and what to avoid.
Name three anchors
- Genre — e.g. UK garage, cinematic orchestral, bedroom pop.
- Energy — chill / driving / anthemic.
- Instrumentation — acoustic guitar + brushed drums + airy pads.
Use references sparingly
“Sounds like [artist]” can bias the model; prefer era and production traits instead: “late-90s trip-hop drums, muted bass, vinyl crackle.”
Avoid contradictions
Don’t ask for solo piano and full metal band in the same line unless you want chaotic blends.
Close with intent
End prompts with the use case: “15-second intro sting for a tech podcast” or “loopable 8-bar bed for gameplay.”
Great prompts read like a producer brief, not a novel.
